How to do Glue-less Closure Install: Mesh Net Method
1. Cut the mesh net
Cut the mesh net into a rectangular shape large enough to cover each side of the closure area.
2. Create two equal parts
From the rectangle, cut two identical pieces. These will be placed on the each end of the closure for support and structure.
3. Sew the mesh to the closure
Using a needle and thread, sew the mesh net onto the ends of the closure, making sure to align it precisely where the closure begins so everything is properly positioned. As you sew, ensure mesh lays completely flat and secured against the closure to create a smooth foundation. Take your time with each stitch to avoid puckering, bunching or lifting, as this can affect the overall finish and stability of the install.
4. Check the closure
Before moving on to the client carefully check the closure from front to back to ensure it has a flat placement, proper alignment and no visible gaps or lifting, as this step helps guarantee a smooth, secure and natural-looking install.
5. Prepare the client's hair
Before beginning the installation, prepare the client's hair by ensuring it is clean and properly braided down into a neat, secure foundation. Taking the time to properly prep the scalp and braids will create a smooth base, helping the install lay flatter and last longer.
6. Lay the edge
Lay the edges by gently pushing them back using Got2B Glue or preferred edge control to create a clean, smooth foundation, ensuring the hairline is neat and prepped for a flawless closure placement.
7. Secure the mesh net around the the head
Secure the mesh net around the head by having the client hold it in place while you carefully sew it down, making sure to leave out the area where the closure will be placed. As you work, ensure the mesh is snug enough to provide a secure foundation not too tight, so the client remains comfortable and the install lays naturally.
8. Position the closure
Position the closure by having the client hold it exactly where will it be placed, ensuring it sits correctly along the hairline. This step is crucial because once the closure is sewn down, repositioning becomes difficult, so proper placement is key to preventing shifting and achieving an even, natural look.
9. Secure one side first
Secure one side first by starting to sew mesh net attached to the closure from top to bottom, pulling it gently behind the ear for added security. As you sew, make sure the closure remains firmly in place to maintain proper alignment and prevent any shifting during the installation process.
10. Repeat the process on the other side
Repeat the same process on the opposite side to ensure balance and stability.
11. Secure the closure fully
Continue sewing across the remaining areas of the closure while the client holds it steady, ensuring the everything stays flat, secure, and properly aligned with the natural hairline for a seamless and natural-looking finish.
12. Install the bundles
Once the closure is fully secured, begin sewing in the bundles as you normally would, maintaining consistent tension throughout the process and following the natural shape of the head to achieve a smooth, seamless blend.
13. Cut the lace and style
Carefully cut the lace using a razor for precise, clean results, then style the hair according to the client's preference, whether that's a sleek straight look, soft curls, a body wave finish, or a customized parting for a natural, polished appearance.
Common Installation Problems and How to Fix Them
Closure shifting during the install
Always have the client hold the closure firmly in place before sewing begins to ensure precise placement and prevent any shifting during the install. This step is essential because closures can easily move out of position, which may lead to uneven parting, misalignment, or unnatural hairline. By having the client secure it, you gain full control over accuracy, allowing you to map out the exact placement before stitching. It also helps you visually confirms symmetry and ensures the closure blends seamlessly with the natural hairline for a flawless, professional finish.
Lifting lace or bulky closure
Ensure the mesh net is sewn flat and evenly before attaching the closure, as this step creates the foundation for a smooth and secure install. A properly laid mesh net helps distribute tension evenly across the head, preventing bumps, ridges, or lifting that can affect the final result. Take your time to align each section carefully so the base sits snug but comfortable, allowing the closure to lay seamlessly on top. When the mesh is even and flat, it not only improves the durability of the install but also enhances the overall natural appearance and finish
Uneven placement
Measure and align the closure carefully before stitching begin to ensure proper placement and a balanced natural-looking install. This step is essential for achieving symmetry, as it allows you to position the closure exactly where the hairline should fall. Take time to check the spacing from ear to ear and confirm that the closure sits straight and centered on the head. Proper alignment before sewing helps prevent issues like uneven parting, shifting, or an off-centered install, ensuring a flawless foundation for the rest of the style.
Tight or uncomfortable install
Avoid excess tension when sewing the mesh around the head to ensure the client remains comfortable and the install lays naturally. Pulling the mesh too tightly can create unnecessary scalp strain, discomfort, and even cause the install to lift or appear unnatural over time. Instead, maintain the balanced tension that keeps the mesh secure while still allowing flexibility and breathability. A properly tensioned mesh net should sit snug against the braids without digging into the scalp, creating a smooth, flat foundation that supports a flawless and long-lasting closure install.
